Critical Reflection

Image
Question 1) How do your products represent social groups or issues? My product represents a social issue by displaying the common mistrust in between people, especially between employees and Employers. Employees believe that their bosses are out to scam them out of their money at every turn, and Employers believe that their employees will only do the bare minimum to get paid. My film challenges this issue by showing the Employer, in this case the Host, meeting with his Employee. While there is of course an alternate meaning, and the Host is of course a criminal, the basic idea of having people of all sides meet and discuss is something I am a big believer in. I believe that these meets are vital in making the Employee-Employer relationships better. Another issue that my short film addresses is trust. These days, in this current political climate, trust is a major problem. The media influences how we see and think about different issues, and the main example which comes to mind is obv

Final Movie

Image
Here is my short film, The Guest Of Honor. I am very happy to have worked on this project and other similar projects in the past two years. AICE Media Studies has really expanded my knowledge on films and the many, many things surrounding it, from advertisement to the hours spent in the editing room. This journey has awakened my love for producing media, and I plan on following this career all throughout my life.  https://youtu.be/bTJyleDnQZc Website Link: https://northbrowardmagnets.wixsite.com/guestofhonor  Here are the postcards advertising my film:

Twas the night before release...

Image
We are now less than 24 hours away from the official release of the short film. I have finalized all filming, assembled the film and will update the social medias. We're in the final stretch now, and I must admit the final result is not at all what I expected. Many things went wrong in this project, and as the Producer/Director/Executive creator/Project Manager/Everything else, it is really all my fault.  I did not play my time correctly, and as a result the story I tell in this short film is not accurate. Many scenes did not work correctly, and the camera quality drops multiple times in this film. I am extremely disappointed in myself, and I can say with certainty that this will not happen again. When I start a project, I do not start doing other things, I finish it. This film should have been finished months ago, but I slacked off and waited until December, where things went wrong. Actors not available, location not available, and I was thinking too big. All these combine into

Shooting the Car Scenes

Image
Today, Richard and I filmed all of the necessary car scenes that I wanted to film. I found myself to be quite the fan of what I have. Of course, I did not manage to film all that I wanted. The weather conditions were not perfect, but were still good for filming.  For starters, I want to discuss the scenes on the inside of the car. I originally had many different camera angles that I wanted to use, but I quickly came to realization that the scene is not long enough for me to use all of these camera angles. The dialogue feels cut out if I use too many angles, so I simply decided to stick to three different angles. The first angle is a regular side angle, with which I have started the conversation. I decided to start normal for this part, mainly because I want it to be clear who is the main character. For the second scene, I decided to use a shot from behind the steering wheel, as a way of doing a nice low angle shot. This also primarily focuses on the main character. For the third came

Some Changes to the car scene

Image
As we are going to start filming the car scenes tomorrow, I want to go over some of the changes that will be happening. First of all, not all of the ideas from the storyboard will be realized. I now see my mistake that I thought too big. For someone that is independently making this film and whose luck is not on his side, I expected too much. In the storyboard, I put all these good ideas, but I never thought of how hard they would actually be to make. Additionally, the car scenes should have been filmed before the main location scenes. I was so intent on seeing how much I filmed in the location that I insisted on waiting before filming the car scene. Now I see the error, and my stubbornness cost me extra stress now.  So, what will change for the car scenes? Not that much, honestly. I will still try to film the opening scene of the reflection in the water, although with no rain planned that may be hard to do. Additionally, the call scene with Will will have some changed camera angles.

Updating the Website and Postcard

Image
Yesterday I worked on gathering some pictures for the website and the postcard. I decided to go for the simpler look instead of complicating things. I still want the focus of my movie to be about this dinner, so the pictures are all related to said dinner. I hesitated to include my character, the host into the pictures, but decided against it. As stated above, I want the focus to be on the dinner, not the characters.  I am a big fan of how it turned out. Critics will say that it is too simplified, but that is exactly what I am aiming for. A nice, simple dinner, which many people will find inviting. That is the idea I am trying to bring about. A normal dinner is what is advertised, nothing more. Once I took the pictures, I immediately set to work on getting them on the website and on the postcard. Firstly, the website has 2 images on the home page. I hesitated to switch out the second dinner image for an image of the shed in which the boxes of "candy" will be, but I ultimate

Updated Filming schedule

We are now fast approaching the deadline, in 5 days. In my previous blog posts, I have said that things are looking up, and that the hardest is behind us. That is true, but there is still a lot of work to do. In order to be completely straight with you, I have decided to give a complete overview of what I have, what I have to do, and when I plan to do it. This way, a full schedule will keep me on track and ahead of the deadline.  To start off, things are not at their greatest. While it is true I have filmed most of the scenes with Lucas, I still have the car scenes to film. I originally said these scenes would be easy to film, but I may have gotten ahead of myself. In order to film the car scenes, I would have to move the camera outside of my house, meaning set up the camera, film, reshoot if necessary, then move on to next location. I have to make sure no cars are nearby, and that the camera angle looks good. I also have to make sure that the car scenes work well, especially with soun
